Insight into one of Australia’s Largest Regional Hospital Developments – The Benefits and Challenges of Greenfield Sites

The Tweed Shire is the latest area to benefit from the NSW Government’s pledge to enhance regional health services as part of a record hospital-building boom.

With $534 Million dedicated to this Greenfield site redevelopment, the new Tweed Valley Hospital will be the largest infrastructure development on the Far North Coast of NSW and will greatly enhance health services for the region, which will experience major population growth and ageing into the future.

In this presentation from Health Facilities Design and Development at Australian Healthcare Week 2018, Matthew Long Director of Corporate Services, Northern NSW Local Health District, explores:\

  • The life cycle of facilities and benefits and challenges of greenfield sites, from providing maximum design flexibility to additional development costs due to poor access and connectivity
  • How they justified their business case for a capital build of this nature and successfully achieved an award of half a Billion dollars in budget allocation
  • Their vision to continually improve the quality of and access to a comprehensive range of integrated health services in partnership with key external partners
